Adolescents
Adolescence is a challenging time for many people, and rates of mental health disorders in teens have risen substantially in the last decade. Adolescents that I work with are often dealing with immense academic pressure, social concerns, and bullying, navigating dating and relationships, and exploring their sexual or gender identity. The combination of hormonal changes and increased stress can make your once-happy teenager seem like a completely different person. In addition, youth today are dealing with adjustment to life after the COVID-19 pandemic, which had enormous impacts to their education and well-being. Teenagers enjoy working with me for my relaxed personality and positive attitude. I am currently privileged to be in the “sweet spot” for working with adolescents – old enough that they do not see me as a friend, but not quite so old that I seem out of touch with realities of their world (like their parents, whom I also aim to have a great rapport with!)
Because I am currently a telehealth provider, I typically only work with adolescents ages 14 and up. I find that children much younger than these ages often have difficulty concentrating and staying engaged in session; they are often better served by in-person therapy that can be more easily translated to “hands on” activities. While this is my general policy, if you have a younger child or adolescent that you feel would benefit from seeing me, do not hesitate to ask! We can discuss whether teletherapy is the right fit for your child.
